  1. There was a huge overhang of excess coercive force accumulated during WW2 with few peons left to wreak it upon. Brettonized dollars were an effective method of leveraging the excess coercion to keep it operating during ‘peacetime’, even moreso once they were converted to petrol-dollars with floating exchange rates.

    There, fixed it…
Keith, we are very nearly alone in saying these sorts of things. After enough self-censorship, even liberal thinkers feel the love of Big Brother somewhere in their lives, and cling to that to assuage the terror they have about how crazy life has become around them.

I can’t help wondering how valid the modern monetary theory (or any other monetary theory) is. It seems like BlackRock, Vanguard, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Clinton Foundation, and the Open Society Foundation own nearly the entire stock market, banking industry, and pharmaceutical Industry. We speak of America as if it was still a republic. Is it? Americans can’t vote on what’s most important to them such as, if we will use gold or funny money as currency, if we will go to war, if we will be able to speak freely, if we can direct the nation’s resources towards health, space exploration, infrastructure and so on. The aforementioned companies seem to have a rock-solid grip on the throat of Uncle Sam. Say what we like, it will fall on deaf ears at best, or get us thrown in prison or killed at worst. We hold on to our goad the same as a child holds a teddy bear while looking up into the sky and watching the bombs fall. If the world economy collapses completely, the important things will be food shelter and possibly weapons. It’s hard to make gold soft enough to eat no matter how much tenderizer you put on it. This thought came to me after speaking with a refugee from Cambodia. He brought his gold and jewelry with him but when he arrived in Laos, no one was interested in trading it for food.
