Additional resources for earning interest in gold

  1. Hi Keith
I don’t understand how desperate debtors are driving up the dollar. Could you explain the mechanism how this happens ? Is it because of forced liquidations i.e. people selling assets to raise $’s ?

    1. jmf: Thanks for your question.

Sure one mechanism is by selling assets to raise cash, especially if this is an unwind of a carry trade.A carry trade is basically to borrow dollars, short them, buy another currency use foreign currency to buy an asset. The unwind is the opposite.

Also, debtors look at their balance sheets and make decisions to hold more cash than they previously did. The value of a currency (or other asset) is driven by these decisions to hold it in preference to other things.

  2. Hi Keith,
you make no mention of lease rates/LIBOR/GOFO, could these not fill the picture out a bit more? Or is anything related to LIBOR, shall we say, “unreliable”?
    Thanks,
    MetalsD
